NCOWA Scholarship
REQUIREMENTS/ INSTRUCTIONS
A: Purpose of scholarship:
To meet the developmental progress needs of the great Nnewi Town, research academic means to mitigate those needs and provide scholarship to sponsor a few brilliant and motivated but financially challenged students whom the scholarship can help to acquire the education and skills which will benefit both the graduates and the community, in the long run.

B. Eligible applicants’ requirement:
The NNEWI COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION OF WASHINGTON D.C. AREA (NCOWA) is the sponsor of this scholarship. It is intended primarily for Nnewi citizens (by birth or legal adoption, in the patrilineal and matrilineal Igbo definition), living in Nigeria AND who have tangible financial obstacle to their academic pursuit into the university or equivalent institution.

C. Minimum Qualification for application/ for scholarship:
i. Hard copy evidence of admission into a university or equivalent level institution but barely can afford undergraduate tuition yet having demonstrated academic excellence in schools already attended.

ii. Must not be more than twenty-five (25) years old and show tangible financial difficulty yet determined to pursue higher education.

iii. Each applicant must have passed the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (J.A.M.B) examination or its polytechnic or Trade school equivalent.

Iv. Must have passed the West African School Certification Examination (WASCE),or the General Certificate Examination (GCE) with a minimum of five (5) credits within two (2) sittings.

v.Is currently not a beneficiary of an existing scholarship whether privately or publicly funded.
D. Requirements to maintain the scholarship to graduation, if awarded:
If awarded the scholarship, the student is expected to sustain the award through graduation by maintaining a passing average grade of “B” or higher,and remain of sound character

F. Avenue of application is Online via the SCHOLARSHIP PORTAL on the NCOWA website. Every required documents must be uploaded on to the portal at the time of completion of application.
G. PROGRAMS AND COURSES OF FOCUS FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP:
Identified areas of service needs in our Home Community include the traditional disciplines (in Medicine and allied medical sciences,Computer sciences, Engineering. Law , Accountancy, Agricultural sciences, as well as technical skills (Plumbing. Building, Welding, Lock-smithing, Surveying, landscaping, Automotive Technician, Electrical/electronic Technician. Radiology Tech., Pharmacy Tech, etc.)
For the technical disciplines, Ordinary National Diploma (OND), Higher National Diploma (HND) or University equivalent diplomas which are likely to prepare the graduate for self-employment are open for sponsorship as well.
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
The deadline for receiving application and all required document is 12 midnight US Eastern Time on Thursday, FEBRUARY 28TH, 2024. This deadline is firm.
